Self-Defense Open House for Women at Richmond Moy Yat Kung Fu

The Richmond Moy Yat Kung Fu Academy Women's Program is hosting an open house Saturday, October 22 from 12:30 pm to 4 pm. At 1 pm and 3 pm there will be kung fu demonstrations, followed by brief introductory lessons for interested women. The event will be held in the kung fu school at 1324 W Main St, Richmond, VA 23220 – a few blocks West of VCU, in the heart of the Fan District.

All Richmond-area women are invited to come meet our Women's Program instructors and students, have refreshments, ask questions, view the demonstrations and even learn some Ving Tsun Kung Fu! The Richmond Academy has separate classes for Men, Women, Kids and Teens; this open house is by and for women interested in any of these programs.

Richmond Moy Yat Kung Fu Academy Women's Program - teaching the martial art of Ving Tsun (wing chun) Kung Fu for health and self-defense

Here are some things real women have to say about the Richmond Moy Yat Kung Fu Women’s Program:

“One of the things that initially drew me to Ving Tsun is that it was named for a woman! [I] love that by becoming part of the Moy Yat kung fu lineage I feel like I am actively participating in the style's history. … I spend a lot of time working out, but kung fu challenged me … I personally always walk away with an over-all feeling that I have contributed to a positive in my own life. … I feel safer as a general rule walking to & from places on my own.” - Ainsley

“What I really like about our women’s program is that it correctly recognizes and transcends the “boys club” mentality that unfortunately plagues a lot of martial arts schools. Women can gain just as much if not more from self-defense training, not only peace of mind with having the tools to protect yourself, but also better health, fitness, and confidence that will carry over into other aspects of our lives as well.” - Kat

“I already love [Ving Tsun Kung Fu] so much. I've learned so much in such a short amount of time. Being a young small female in college, there are a lot of dangers out there, but because of Ving Tsun, I'm not afraid of those dangers the way I used to be. [Ving Tsun] has given me power and strength that I never thought I'd have as someone who's only 5' 2” and who doesn't work out. It's cool to feel strong as "the little guy," and Ving Tsun is just really cool in general.” - Deja

Find out for yourself why Ving Tsun is one of the world's most popular martial arts, and how it can benefit you and your loved ones. At the Open House you will learn how you can develop your health, fitness, confidence, self-esteem, self-respect, discipline, strength of will and character, personal power and self-control, as well as fighting skills that will actually work in real-world self-defense situations, through training in this unique martial art.

The Ving Tsun Kung Fu system is rare and special. It was developed by two women - a Buddhist nun and a young woman she befriended, and it's named after a woman – Yim Ving Tsun. You can read more about the history at KungFuRichmond.com, and it will be discussed at the Women's Program Open House. By training structure and developing energy instead of using strength and force, it is an ideal martial art for women – even those who are naturally smaller and weaker can learn to defeat attackers who are larger and stronger, through technique, skill and power.

At the Richmond Moy Yat Kung Fu Academy, we teach the complete and authentic Ving Tsun system of martial arts, the same way it was handed down to us. The proof of this is in the effectiveness of the kung fu our students develop. Talk with the instructors and students in our Women's Program – find out how it's changed the lives of real women for the better, how it's helped women in difficult situations on the street, and in the home and workplace. Come check out a demo and free intro class to learn more about developing devastating kung fu fighting power and skill – all in a safe and welcoming environment.

All women attending this Open House will be eligible to attend a series of three beginner classes (a week's worth of lessons) in our regular Women's Program with a $5 donation to the Richmond YWCA.
