Ving Tsun Kung Fu Mind-Blast in Richmond, VA
This past weekend there was a Moy Tung workshop on Richmond, VA on Tan Dar, Fuk Dar and much, much more. Also see the pics and video below.
20 hours of training went on from Friday through Sunday, with more than twenty sifus and students gathering from the Richmond schools and the region (DC, Virginia Beach and Charlottesville), for hard training without expectations.
Grandmaster Moy Tung spent hours with the sifus and seniors, going over principles, techniques and details with training instructions to work on and cover with everyone. He also heavily involved himself at times in the regular workshop, observing, giving hands-on demonstrations, details and corrections to individuals and the group, speaking at length on a number of occasions.
Incomplete list of material covered by Moy Tung during the course of the workshop:
- Nature, form and application of Tan Dar vs. Fuk Dar, and retracting Tan Dar
- A dozen or more ways to Lop the Bong Sao; including with Pak Dar, Gum Dar, Jut Dar and Poi Jeang; using Tan Dar and Lop Dar when countered
- Distinctions between Lop Sao and Lop Dar, including Bong Sao
- Over a dozen details during 3 hours of Siu Nim Tao on Sunday
- Numerous comments on how Siu NIm Tao, Chum Kiu, Biu Je, the Jong and the Kwan forms apply in fighting and Chi Sao training
- Numerous comments on fighting, in general and on technique applications
- Gan Dar
- Opening for Po Pai with and without Gwan Sao
- Jut Dar vs. downward Biu Sao
- Numerous comments and details on relaxing, including application of Siu Nim Tao to Chi Sao, and how to relax and use force at the same time
- Using Bong Sao and Lan Sao to counter a Lan Sao to the throat; why a Wu Sao may not work
- Using Wu Sao and horse to counter Kwai Jeang
- Ving Tsun neck-grab and hand-trapping joint-lock takedowns
- And much more
Grandmaster Moy Tung has trained many sifus and seniors capable of leading invaluable three-day workshops packed with training on Moy Yat Ving Tsun Kung Fu information, solo or with him behind the scenes. So when he does involve himself in the regular workshop programs as much as he did this time, it’s undeniably special, and we are grateful to have had this opportunity. ‘Mind blown’ was a frequent comment from those attending.
You never know when Moy Tung will teach like this, but it may be as soon as December 10 – a one day, all day Saturday workshop on the basics of advanced Chi Sao. See the Richmond Moy Yat Kung Fu Facebook event and the kungfurichmond.com workshop blog post for more info. Moy Tung inner circle students are always welcome to arrive early and stay late for extra training.
