Moy Tung Ving Tsun Kung Fu is highly effective for self-defense, and training is relaxed and safe
According to the legend that has been handed down, the Ving Tsun Kung Fu system was primarily developed by the Buddhist nun Ng Mui, and Yim Ving Tsun, a young woman she befriended and taught. After training a short time, Ving Tsun used her kung fu to challenge and defeat, in hand-to-hand combat, a warlord who was trying to force her into marriage.
It is true that training in the Ving Tsun system, under a qualified sifu, such as in the Moy Tung lineage of the Moy Yat Kung Fu family, enables people of smaller stature, including women and children, to overcome even more experienced attackers that are larger, stronger and faster. The training principles, forms, two-person drills and horse stances develop efficient and powerful strikes, as well as kicks and footwork, for simultaneous attack and defense
.This makes it extremely difficult to take down or beat a properly trained Ving Tsun student in a real fight, where there are no rules. Ving Tsun teaches students to end fights as quickly as possible, by knocking out opponents. The training gives you the ability to stand strong on your feet and quickly dominate and incapacitate attackers.
Training on the centerline means your technique is efficient and effective, regardless of the attacker’s methods or experience. We don’t wrestle, but Ving Tsun does have takedowns with finishing techniques. Serious Ving Tsun Kung Fu students have the best chance of prevailing in a threatening or deadly situation, even against multiple opponents. In addition to being highly effective for developing real-world self-defense skill, Ving Tsun training is also relaxed and safe.
The forms and conditioning drills develop power, and strengthen and relax the body and mind. There are also exercises done with other classmates in a non-competitive, cooperative manner, which minimizes the risk of injury to both participants, while simultaneously giving both participants a practical way to develop the proper energy and control, and also test techniques and improve their effectiveness.
It can take many years to master the Ving Tsun system, but in the same day you learn something, you can use it effectively for self-defense. A beginner student can build a strong foundation with one year of training, and reach expert level within two to four years. Of course, the more one studies and trains, the better one becomes. Ving Tsun Kung Fu is so advanced, however, that the techniques and principles taught in the first lesson may be all someone ever needs to win a fight.
